Barrett, Minnesota, November 5, 2019: With the help of rebates available through Otter Tail Power Company’s Minnesota Conservation Improvement Program, West Central Area Secondary School recently completed an energy-efficient geothermal heat pump retrofit project.

Otter Tail Power Company provided a rebate of $199,400 for this upgrade. A highly efficient renewable energy technology, geothermal heat pumps move heat instead of creating it, providing economical heating and cooling. They’re clean, safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly.

Originally installed during the building’s construction, the geothermal heating system at West Central Secondary School—while well maintained—was in need of an upgrade. The retrofit project included installing 70 heat pumps, totaling more than 400 tons of cooling refrigeration as part of a new geothermal heating system. “This timely upgrade of a well-designed and well-used system will serve the district long into the future,” said Otter Tail Power Company Energy Management Representative Lori Moxness.

Otter Tail Power Company provides rebates, grants, education, special programs, and financing to encourage individuals and businesses to use electricity wisely. To learn more about energy-saving options, visit otpco.com.
